United Nations Economic and Social Council

ECOSOC

Grades 7-10 Intermediate Committee
Financing of terrorism through the drug trade

With extremist groups and terrorist organisations constantly looking for businesses that can help generate more revenue, drug trade becomes the best option for terrorists to be funded through. It is illegal and highly difficult for the law enforcement to track, as well as being very successful in generating profit. By making deals and forging connections with drug cartels or drug trafficking groups, terrorist organisations are able to receive financial assistance that can be used in funding attacks, weapons, and training. Drug trade is becoming an enabler for terrorist actions, acting as financial support. The ECOSOC committee will analyse the socio-cultural and economic implications of this agenda and reach a resolution for this pressing issue.
