UNGA Day 2: UNGA Passes Paper

In the MUN committee session of the UNGA on 15th October countries, Chile, Peru, Japan and Turkey formed a working paper to implement initiatives towards sustainable development in South America. They have 4 other countries discussing terms and solutions with them on the same. They include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Argentina, Switzerland and Norway.

The countries stated that they formed their bloc as they are deeply concerned about the “slow economic growth” in the continent, their “high unemployment rates”. They are aware that South America is going through an economic and political crisis and are ready to share resources to keep the continent stable.

This resolution attempts to increase sustainable growth in South America by solving the problems of poverty, education, and corruption.

The first priority of the countries is to keep the continent economically stable. The countries plan to solve this problem through sharing economical resources and help build new green infrastructure in the form of schools, hospitals, and government bases.

The delegate of the 4 countries explained that it would solve the problem of healthcare, education and lack of political figures all with one solution. The exact details of how they would keep the infrastructure green was not released but they hold a “great future” for the coming generations of South America.

They want to further help with education by making it compulsory to attend school for primary and secondary school until the age of 18. This will lift the literacy rates in the continent and reduce poverty in the land.

For the poor, free education should be given. They plan to incorporate a mandatory wealth tax to moderate inequality levels The bloc is also looking for ways to help the continent with its corruption issues and are discussing with their sponsors about the same.

The alliance is urging foreign countries to grant modern technology for development in South America. In their report they also stated that they “further invite all other countries to discuss and contribute to the sustainability of South America.” This opened the floor for other delegates to represent their countries and add their contributions towards the desired end of the working paper formulated in the committee sessions.

The report also stated that though the countries will do everything they can to help sustain the continent, it was up to the citizens to use their resources and to grab opportunities given to them. They encouraged the citizens to switch to renewable sources of energy and to optimize the use of biofuels, in order to ensure a sustainable and economically-viable future.
